Fall Classic Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting extra-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run attracted a aggregate 51 million viewers in the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB stated this is the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M viewers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership was over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen various tongues.
